Starting Salary: £23,877 increasing to £24,355 after probation
Hours: 38 per week

Ambient Support (formerly known as Heritage Care and Community Options) is a registered UK charity with over 25 years’ experience in providing care and support services for older people, people with a mental health need and people with a learning disability.

The Deputy Manager will be responsible:
 

  • To ensure that the Service functions in accordance with Ambient’s policies and procedures, Care Quali-ty Commission registration requirements and fundamental standards.
  • To share with the Manager the responsibility for monitoring broad aspects of the management of the home including the supervision and training of care staff. Assist the Manager with the recruitment and deployment of staff with an awareness of Registration requirements.
  • To be responsible for monitoring the staff rota, ensuring that annual leave, training and sickness cover is provided in the most cost effective way. • The post holder will ensure that all staff receives regular supervision, are annually appraised and provid-ed with a personal development plan.
  • To work in a care capacity for at least one shift per week to maintain a highly visible care presence and thus act as a role model by demonstrating expert care practice.
  • To take responsibility for the implementation of Ambient’s medication policies and procedures in the care facility. To maintain good communication with Pharmacist and local GP Practices.
  • To ensure that infection control standards are maintained.
  • To support all staff with care and support based decisions, thereby aiding their professional develop-ment.
  • To ensure that the Service implements a social activity programme, which will be appropriate to people’s needs and reflect their recorded preferences and aspirations.
  • To be responsible for making sure that when people move into the service an appropriate Person Cen-tred Plan is completed and a key worker allocated in partnership with the person using the service.
  • To carry out a comprehensive assessment of the person prior to moving into the service.
  • To ensure that the service offers a warm, caring, stimulating and homely environment to all the people we support which recognises and values their collective and individual needs and aspirations.
  • To attend and sometimes chair staff and service user meetings as required by the post and to encourage the training of all staff.
  • There would be an expectation for the post holder to provide cover at night in exceptional circumstances when request-ed.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Health & Social Care Act 2008 and CQC Funda-mental Standards.
  • Effective communication skills including verbal, literacy and numeracy for use with-in and external to the scheme.
  • Good IT literacy and the ability to use computers on a regular basis. Examples of the level required may include, the use of the internet, emails, and basic software packages to record and access information, including use of care management systems
  • Competent approach to budgets, petty cash procedures.
  • Ability to complete and check monitoring sheets, devise rotas.
  • Broad range of care skills for older people living in residential care.
  • Activities for older people in care.
  • Basic current Health and Safety law including food hygiene and manual handling.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding
  • of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.
  • Understanding of discrimination experienced by minority groups due to ethnic origin, disability, sex, age, sexual orientation. The post holder must be able to demonstrate an awareness and ability to relate this knowledge to the needs of elderly people.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge in standard setting and quality man-agement.
  • Able to manage difficult situations effectively.
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Able to use own initiative
